week 1.5: "sista fisha!"

Friday, November 6, 2015

HI GUYS! thanks for all the emails!! hopefully i will have time to respond individually. it is so hard cause we don't have that much time!! hmm where to begin!

Time here in the mtc is strange. It was going by really slow and then all of a sudden I leave monday!! but i am so excited to get to az. i'm ready to leave the mtc. i feel so trapped! idk how people are here for 9 weeks. awful. i mean its great but at the same time I feel like I will learn just so much more in the field. I really love our district they are like family. and my zone!!  really sad because one of our zone leaders went home tuesday night. I was at devo and I saw that one of the zone leaders was alone. Then after devo we had to go the front desk for my companion and there was elder dimick sitting there by himself. I asked what he was doing there and he said he is going home. I have no idea why but i felt way bad. That's so hard. Also for his parents.

Anyways so our first "investigator" was our teacher and she was role playing someone named cindy. She was prepared for us so we just started teaching and we had our last lesson with her wednesday! She said yes to baptism and our teacher said we did well but sometimes we straight up sucked. teaching is hard!! you really just need to be guided by the spirit. and if it's not there...it falls apart.

Our trc investigator is named sharon rogers. oh man is it so hard but i love teaching her! okay so we actually think she is a real investigator but who knows she could be a really good actress. long story short she moved here 3 years ago from tennesse because her lds friend debi helped her get here to get away from her husband who was abusive. and she has been divorced 3 times. abused by her father when she was young and she lost a child 14 years ago when he was 2 months old. and she was suicidal. so yeah.. we have to be careful what to say and we can't be too pushy. I wish I could go into more detail but yeah it is hard cause she has a bad relationship with God and she doesn't trust Him. So she won't pray!! We try so hard to get her to pray and our lessons are good. but she talks so much!! we pretty much can't teach her anything if she won't pray and doesn't know that God loves her. Our last lesson is tonight and she said she would try to pray so I am hoping she did!! wish me luck!

anyways we pretty much just sit all day and it sucks but I like class for the most part. role playing isn't that fun but whatever! I am tired all dayyy pretty much. I sleep like a baby at night. We have a lot of fun here though. some people take things too seriously but not our zone too much lol. We are good when we need to be though. The elders are so immature though...not all the time but sometimes. all I hear is "page 33" referring to the white handbook. they are 18 what do you expect. I've seen a lot of my friends little siblings it's so weird! i'm a grandma here but I like it cause I have a lot more experience with some things.

I hope you all had a good halloween! I didn't really notice it was halloween. some people dressed up a little and some girls went around trick or treating with their pillow cases. The weather has been so nice and warm here and then all of a sudden it's freezing! like the past two days it's been snowing a little. But we are never outside, just to walk to classes. We did go to the temple sunday for a walk! It was so fun! I'll send pics. We go again on sunday. And we actually get to go inside today! I'm so excited!! ive never been to the provo one. And it will be nice to just stop and think. We never really do that here. It's go go go. which is good cause i don't get homesick cause im so busy.

The work is so sweet though. I love being surrounded by missionaries who all have the same purpose. Ive met so many awesome people! also the devos have been so good we had one of the seventy come. oh and i saw character of christ (which everyone told me to see including out branch president. It was so good it changed me life. president bednar is amazing. and so blunt i love it.)

Everyone has been struggling and there has been so many tears shed. but i think everyone is good now. I have been fine though! I got sick yesterday (it's just my throat so i am fine) I think I get colds easily. i cant wait to go to the nice weather in az! We leave MONDAY morning!! crazy. also we are one of the few missionaries that have ipads and it is so nice!! but also the elders get way distracted....airdrop and photobooth....I still like carrying my scriptures around and paper copies cause I just like it!! paper is best. ill get used to the ipads someday. It is so great for mormon messages and such though! and pictures.

My teachers are sister masterson and sister bangeter I can't remember if I said that last email but they are great! they are too nice and positive sometimes though... I'm like I want harsh feedback to make me better!! they both just got married. Other teachers come and help and it's great. I've been playing volleyball during gym some days and it is so fun!! lol i love it. everyone calls me "sista fisha!"

I'm not sure what else to say. I'm gonna miss everyone here but I am so glad so many people are going to scottsdale! it will be a party. Im nervous but excited.

Thanks for all the emails and love

much love,

sister fisher

week 1: "welcome to the mtc!"

Friday, October 30, 2015

Hello!!! IM ALIVE. I made it! It's weird that this is my first email! I'm doing great! The mtc is the best. oh my gosh everyone is so great. We get the dork dot the first day and everyone welcomed us. I don't know where to begin! Also I am just sending this to everyone so everyone has my email and then from now on I will not send an email every week to you unless you told me to!

Getting my name tag was an amazing feeling and I love wearing it! We immediately went to class and then we met the mtc presidency and had orientation. Then later that night we already started teaching! WHAT. I mean they are all actors but we found that out later and were SO mad lol. not mad just like what we had been lied to!? It was a bunch of us and we sat down and started teaching him as a big group as the investigator called on us. We taught three different people. One was italian and we LOVED him. He is in motab. lol. I already had learned so much that you really need to follow the spirit and the promptings you receive. I really need to work on that. And you also really need to get to know your investigators and their needs.

The first day felt long but like doable. I honestly felt so prepared going in the mtc. and I feel ancient here sometimes. lol all these 18 yr old elders. they're so cute. (as in a brotherly way) It feels like I've been here forever but I'm loving it. It's a little stressful but doable. I think having 3 years of schooling as helped me deal with stress. My companion's name is Sister Grow! Man was I blessed to be her companion. She is 19 but just graduated High School. But she is so mature. She is from middletown idaho, near boise. She is also going to Scottsdale which I am so glad so that we don't have to say goodbye to eachother. We were pretty great together! We got called as sister Training leaders last night! We met our branch president last night I LOVE HIM. We all got together as a branch and all bore our testimonies and it was so great! The spirit was so strong and it was great to know others on a more personal level.

So I need to talk about the other Sisters in my room/district! They are also going to scottsdale!!! SO happy! Sister fairholm is from Pennsylvania and Sister Devlin is from portland! They are also 19 and so fun and great to be with! Us 4 are pretty much all together. We have 4 elders in our district and they are all going to alaska! They are so awesome as well. There are 7 other elders going to scottsdale and they are in our zone. also I met a sister from finland going to scottsdale! So from what I know there are 5 sisters and 7 elders.going to AZ BABAY. side note all the boys have blonde hair and i think its hilarious.

The food is okay...but the salads and wraps are so great!! You guys would be proud I'm actually.i have been trying to eat well. I really don't want to gain weight. I ran today and it felt great. I'm carrying a water bottle with me and drinking lots of water. GO ME. They also have chocolate milk here....DANGEROUS. but so good. also this morning i had the cookies and cream milk from byu creamery that I had all the time at school. also dangerous. those are heavenly. anyways enough about food.

I have already been learning so much and I can feel the spirit with me always. I really can feel Heavenly Father's hand in my life helping me. I knew I wouldn't be able to do this if I wasn't set apart from the world. I am walking on sacred ground and the spirit is so strong. Classes are a little long but honestly from what I heard I was expecting it to be worse. We are teaching out first lesson tomorrow! We will see how it goes...I just have to be confident. I struggle with that.

Everyone who knows me knows I suck at directions and I am so disoriented. My comp and I get lost on campus ALL the time. Which makes us late so one of our goals is to really learn our way around. all the buildings look the same and I get so confused! I honestly don't think I will be able to learn by the time I leave. lol. it's okay it's only 2 weeks.

Wow thinking of what I have done these past few days is hard. Overall I think I am adjusting well. At least compared to some others. I have seen some people I know around campus and it is so comforting to see them! I have so much to do all the time. Like I have a lot of assignments but I got this. And sometimes class goes over and I just feel really rushed but I just need to breathe and try to take eveything in. Cause honeslty I am not here too long and I need to enjoy it!

It's so nice being a missionary and having a purpose! I love my teachers and all they do. We got ipads already!! They are pretty awesome! We haven't gotten the time to really use them yet. Also can I say it's really hard not to say "GUYS" or call myself by my first name. It's still crazy to think I am a missionary. Idk if I am used to it yet. I forget to call the sisters, sisters and the elders, elders. also i suck at names so I need to work on that.

Overall I love being a missionary and I am happy! Also I can't send pictures from this computer but honestly I havent had time to take any really! I'll send a few pictures from my ipad in a different email soon! Thanks for all the support and love!

Enjoy your week and I would love an email from you guys! :)

LOVE YOU,

Sister Fisher
I love wearing my nametag!

sister fisher enters the mtc

I just dropped Sister Fisher off at the MTC. I picked her up from the airport at 10:30 this morning, we drove to Provo for some lunch at Cafe Rio, took some pictures outside the MTC, and then I dropped her off around 1:00. She was surprisingly calm and definitely ready to enter the mission field. She was way more emotionally stable than I was. She kept telling me to stop crying. We are so proud of her decision to serve. I will be posting her weekly e-mails to this blog, so make sure to stop by often! -Brittany
